Chapter 2

The following night, she had a break, with only the matinee show being performed. Practicing in the ring in the afternoon, as the sun went down, she finished up and got food, eating as she sat looking out over Kings Park and the river. The sun dropped below the horizon, and she continued to sit, watching, occasionally talking to her friends, and finally decided to go for a jog around the city.

Leaving the circus grounds, she ran at a moderate pace, passing the city proper, jogging through alleyways, arcades, and down the pretty streets. As she ran she occasionally got the impression of being watched, and paused, looking around. Seeing nothing, she continued.

Again the sensation returned, keeping pace with her, and she stopped again, looking around, her heart speeding up slightly. She quickened her pace and began to move between the buildings, moving faster, choosing random corners instead of a planned route, weaving back towards the circus grounds.

The sensation got stronger, and she turned a corner, into a quiet arcade. Pausing, she looked around, her muscles twitching, her heart thudding, her blood roaring in her ears, and she looked around determined to find the source of the threat.

She turned, looking around, the creature watching her from the shadows. Finally, it stepped out into the arcade, as her back was turned, and as she turned gracefully to face him, he spoke.

“Such a vision. So beautiful.”

At the voice, her eyes snapped to the still figure, golden hair falling over its face, the light of the cigarillo flaring as it inhaled and blew the fragrant smoke out. She turned and ran, something in the encounter last night, and the moment now telling her to get out of there as fast as she could. In an instant, he was after her, faster than the eye could see. Moving at speed, almost flickering from place to place she did not pause as she reached the road and then several things happened at once – the car was unable to stop, she twisted, her energy flaring for a second to get out of the way, and the angel caught up, carrying both of them across the road into a shadow.

The car stopped, its driver unsure exactly what had happened. She got out of the car, looking around, looking at the car, but seeing nothing. Getting back in the car, she drove away, not looking at the shadows….

Pressed against the wall, pinned there by his body, unable to move, her heart sped up, the stinging in her arm telling her she was bleeding. The scent of roses surrounded her, and his nostrils flared. Looking down into her eyes, he smiled softly, as one of his hands gently lifted hers to examine the graze along her forearm. The scent of her blood was rich, intoxicating, like nothing he’d ever smelt before. He lowered his mouth to her arm, and the tongue snaked out, tasting the blood dripping. The touch was light, so very gentle, but it made her quiver and tremble, trapped against the wall by his body.

The taste….. oh my…. His eyes closed in heaven, in absolute ecstasy at the taste of her, and unable to help himself he closed his mouth over her arm. She feels the flash of pain as his fangs pierce her skin and then the kiss floods in, only him keeping her upright.

Forcing himself to draw back, he backs away, looking at her, as she stands, legs shaking, the scent of blood and arousal coming off her skin, flushed from the kiss. Just as suddenly, he is gone.

On unsteady legs she walks home.

That night both of them pause, thinking the same thing; what did they do to me? Who was that?

Chapter 3

The following night, after her performance, still somewhat jittery, she returned to her accommodation. She had kept looking for him, in the crowd, in the shadows, knowing somewhere, he was out there, watching her.

As she closed the door, she saw the envelope on the hall stand. It smelt of roses, and opening it, she read the invitation to a room at the Duxton. Seating herself, she closed her eyes, concentrated, and looked into the room. He sits on the white couch, very still. Then gets up, moving around, slightly tense. As she watches, she adds some of her supernatural senses, trying to work out what he did, and was. He moved faster than most humans - even her, and she had 'extras' boosting her natural talent. Looking at him, she can see the level of static, but the supernatural boost. Strongly entropic, she looked with the sight of stigia, and saw...

Breaking off the sight, her heart pounded as she remembered the pleasure of his mouth on the graze. Peering at him again through the folds of space, she put her other skill to use - and peered into the mind of the creature pulsing with stolen blood.

Flickers assaulted her, shocking her, some of them, while part of her recognised that he was in some ways like her, seeing the similarity. His mind kept returning to the moment of her blood flowing into his (its?) mouth, the arousal and ecstasy it felt, tasting her. Seeing the thoughts, she felt his heat and desire speak to hers, become part of her, and knew that she would go, even if it was unwise.
